F ive men were arrested following a robbery incident near the African Lounge on Louis Botha Avenue on Tuesday.

According to information received, the suspects allegedly robbed a man of his cellphone and cash. After the robbery, the victim did not remain silent. He reportedly threw a stone at the suspects’ getaway vehicle and began shouting for help, drawing attention from people in the area.

Metro police officers who were nearby responded quickly after noticing the disturbance. They pursued the suspects’ vehicle and managed to stop it in Savoy, close to a Shoprite store.

A search of the suspects led to the discovery of several cellphones believed to be stolen, raising suspicion that the group may have been involved in other robberies.

The five men were taken into custody and are expected to face multiple criminal charges. Police say investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to additional crimes in the area.
