T he victim, identified as Isaac David Satlat, was a student trying to earn a living by driving for Bolt. According to police reports, Satlat was allegedly attacked by two passengers who had requested a ride on Wednesday evening, February 11.
Authorities say the suspects turned on the young driver during the trip. Despite reportedly attempting to defend himself, Satlat was overpowered and strangled to death. His vehicle was then hijacked.
Dashcam footage that has since circulated widely on social media appears to capture the horrifying moments leading up to the attack. The video has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of e-hailing drivers operating in high-risk areas.
Shortly after the incident, Satlat’s body and his hijacked vehicle were discovered in Atteridgeville. In a significant development, Gauteng police confirmed that the female passenger seen in the viral footage has been arrested after handing herself over at the Atteridgeville police station.
She is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate's Court on Monday, where she will face charges of murder and car hijacking. The search for her alleged accomplice remains ongoing.
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist in locating the outstanding suspect to come forward.
The tragedy has left family, friends, and members of the community devastated. Satlat’s uncle has made a public appeal for assistance to repatriate his nephew’s body to Nigeria for burial. The young man’s death has not only robbed a family of a son and nephew but has also intensified calls for greater protection for e-hailing drivers who face increasing risks on the job.
As investigations continue, authorities have reiterated their commitment to bringing all those involved to justice.
